After Surgery
After the surgical removal of your unhealthy eye, the ophthalmologist will place a conformer in the socket. This conformer is a clear acrylic shape that protects and forms the socket as healing is taking place. Since these conformers are fit during initial swelling as a result of your surgery, they are thin for comfort. Consequently, as healing progresses, your upper eyelid may appear to droop; this is perfectly normal and volume will be restored with your custom made prosthesis. Occasionally, the conformer may become dislodged. If this occurs, contact your ophthalmologist or our office for assistance. The conformer will remain in your socket until your prosthesis is complete. Approximately six to eight weeks after surgery, your eye socket should be healed sufficiently for you to proceed with the appointments with your Ocularist.
