Meet Our Team
At Marie Allen Ocularist Ltd., it's our desire to offer a caring, sensitive and relaxed environment which puts our patients at ease. We take pride in producing a quality and comfortable prosthesis designed to match the companion eye. Both Marie, Rob and Heather are active members of the Canadian Society of Ocularists and the American Society of Ocularists.
Hi, I’m Marie. I founded Marie Allen Ocularist Ltd. in 1986, and am a second generation ocularist with over thirty-five years of experience designing and fabricating artificial eyes. I am a Board Certified Ocularist (BCO) with The National Examining Board of Ocularists (NEBO) as well as a Board Approved Diplomate Ocularist (BADO). Over the past thirty-five years I have enjoyed writing several published journal articles and have served as Director of the Canadian Society of Ocularists. Currently, I serve as the Canadian Representative for the National Examining Board of Ocularists. Outside the office I spend my time working on various art projects, travelling, and connecting with those in my community
Hello, I’m Robert. My career started in 1990, and I am a Board Certified Ocularist and Board Approved Diplomat Ocularist. Proudly, I have been an active member of the Canadian Society of Ocularists since 1998, working with amazing and talented ocularists across Canada. I enjoy working with a full range of patients from birth to those special folks over 100 years old. I strive to make every visit comfortable and even a little fun. I find great joy in watching people strive to make the best out of any situation, and am grateful to be a small part of changing people’s lives for the better. Out of the office I am an avid skier, hockey player, and an active participant in my community.
Hi, I’m Heather, Rob and Marie’s daughter. I am a licensed optician and contact lens fitter and am now interning to become a Board Certified Ocularist. My grandfather was a maxillofacial prosthetist and ocularist and I will be proud to become a third generation ocularist. In addition to my Canadian practice, I plan to use my skills and help those in underdeveloped countries, restoring them to normal life and society. I am passionate about my work and am looking forward to providing the best results and care for our patients. In my spare time, I love travel, fitness, and have a heart for human connection.
Hi, I’m Liz and I’ve been privileged to be with Marie Allen Ocularist since 1999, working with Marie and Heather in our Vancouver location. I love what I do, whether that be general office administration, interacting with patients in developing their iris colour or working behind the scenes in our lab to create beautiful eyes for them. It is truly gratifying to see the impact our work has on people and working with a company that is passionate and caring about what we do and it motivates me to do my best in every aspect of my job. In my spare time, I enjoy doing art projects, gardening and spending time with my family.
Hi, I’m Lavene. I have had the pleasure of being employed with Marie Allen Ocularist since February 2012, working in our Burnaby location with Robert and Heather. Helping the patients is a true passion of mine; whether it’s being on the front-line helping them with booking appointments and administrative duties or siting with them, painting an iris for their new artificial eye. In 2014, I became the Executive Secretary of the Canadian Society of Ocularists. I also practice as a Registered Professional Counsellor specializing in addiction/recovery, grief and loss, and general life coaching. My passions out of office hours are my kids, granddaughter, animals, travel, and camping. I look forward to meeting you.
